FCD Kiteboards in Appletree Construction
We recently teamed up with Appletree Surfboards to build a few kiteboards in their construction and have been stoked with the results!
At the core of each board is Appletree’s proprietary 50K closed cell foam. Not only is this foam extremely strong and lightweight, but it is also water resistant. So don’t stress the small stuff like tiny dings or fractures, they won’t ruin your session.
The foundation of each board is built with three layers encapsulating the core. There’s an internal structural fiberglass layer, then a hex-skin flexible layer that is honeycombed, and another fiber glass layer - this time aimed at a 45-degree angle. All of these pieces come together to ensure your board has the flexibility you need without compromising strength. The bottom of the board is left without the honeycomb material to enhance the flex even further.
The board is then placed under a vacuum with some pressure applied to it. This step is to inject epoxy resin into every fiber without using an excess amount of resin. The result is a super strong, yet very light board. Color is infused into the board by adding pigment directly to the epoxy resin, ensuring the entire board is uniformly colored.
